About Whitechurch

Local builders in Te Awamutu, building across the Waipa

Whitechurch Construction is owned by Andy Whitechurch and Laura Stamp. We are based in Pirongia and serve Te Awamutu, Cambridge and the wider Waipa, keeping the team small on purpose so each project gets proper attention.

Who we are

We are Andy and Laura — a family-run builder in Pirongia, building homes in a way that stays personal.

Andy leads the building work. Laura looks after the office side. Together, we keep communication direct and decisions close to the people doing the work.

While we have a special place in our hearts for character homes, giving them a fresh, modern twist, our skill set extends to nearly any project you envision — building new from scratch, expanding your current space, or undertaking a renovation.

Our story

From apprentice at 18 to Whitechurch Construction

  1. Age 18

    Into the trade

Straight out of school, Andy jumped into an apprenticeship with some of Waikato’s most respected carpenters.

  2. Abroad

    The French Alps & Ireland

His passion for building took him overseas, honing his craft and learning new methods.

  3. Home

    Back to New Zealand

He brought those skills home, with over 24 years of hands-on building experience behind him.

  4. Pirongia

    Whitechurch Construction

Andy and Laura started Whitechurch to build homes in a way that stays personal.

  5. Next

    The next generation

Two little builders, never far from the action and keen to learn from dad.

Building is in our DNA

Carpentry runs deep in our veins.

Andy’s Grandad was a builder — a master craftsman whose dedication to creating beautiful, lasting homes inspired a legacy that continues today. Those heritage skills, combined with a modern approach, define everything we do.

How we work

Building is a bit like a puzzle

Character homes and older houses rarely present simple answers. Whitechurch enjoys working through the constraints, finding practical options for difficult spaces and then working out how to build them.

  1. 01Work through the constraints
  2. 02Find practical options for difficult spaces
  3. 03Work out how to build them

Our passion lies in the entire process — from brainstorming to delivering the final product.

Our team

The people behind every build

Behind our family business is a crew of skilled builders who bring dedication and craftsmanship to every project. We also work with trusted trades and specialists across the region.

About Andy

When not working, Andy enjoys home projects and landscaping with his wife Laura. He prioritises time with their two active boys and loves outdoor activities — snowboarding in winter (including trips to Canada and Japan) and spending summers jet skiing, fishing, and relaxing at the beach with family and friends.

Our little builders

Following in Dad’s footsteps

It looks like Andy’s passion for building is already being passed down to the next generation! Our little builders are never far from the action, keen to pick up tools (even if they’re just for practice) and learn from dad. Whether it’s helping out in the workshop or just exploring their curiosity, they’ve definitely got the building spirit in them!

Small by choice

“We are not trying to be the biggest builder in the Waikato.”

Keeping the team small helps Andy stay close to each project and means we can be honest about the work we have capacity to take on.

In their words

What working with Andy is like

“Andrew and the team are excellent. Fantastic problem solving, high quality of workmanship and a practical approach. We had a two stage renovation in an older house and the usual problems were encountered. Andrew's deep expertise meant that these were navigated with ease and the result is fantastic. Highly recommend.”
